Van Buren
County is located at the very heart of middle Tennessee.
Chattanooga, Nashville and Knoxville are all just a short
drive away. State Highway 111 runs north and south through
the county while State Highway 30 runs east and west. U.S.
Interstate 40 is approximately 30 miles from the county seat
of Spencer. Nashville International Airport is less than
100 miles west of Van Buren County and Chattanooga's port
is less than an hour's drive.
The Tennessee
General Assembly established Van Buren County in 1840, and
the county takes its name from the eighth president of the
United States, Martin Van Buren. The Paleo people nomads
from the Cumberland Plateau region first settled the area.
Following them were the Archaic People and the Woodland People.
The county
is bordered by the Rocky River and the Caney Fork River.
These two spectacular water sources provide for excellent
waterfront views and watersports.
Rock Island
State Park and Fall Creek Falls are located just minutes
away. Fall Creek Falls is one of the most scenic and spectacular
outdoor recreation area boasting one of the highest waterfalls
east of the Rocky Mountains at 256 feet. There are other
falls within the park including Piney, Cane Creek and Cane
Creek Cascades.
In addition
to hiking, camping and watersports, Fall Creek Falls cabins,
group lodges, a championship golf course and a nature center.

a few hours drive.

and enjoy the beautiful lights and gorgeous scenery in Gatlinburg;
catch a Tennessee Vols game in Knoxville; don't miss the
Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga; but come home to Van Buren
County.
